About Us

Maniapoto Central Research Region (MCR) is created to support MCR aligned claimants within the Waitangi Tribunal Wai 898 Te Rohe Pōtae Enquiry. Work identified by CFRT and Maniapoto claimants has focus on Te Rohe Pōtae (TRP) Wai 898.  Support was given by the Maniapoto Mandated Iwi Organisation (Maniapoto Maori Trust Board). They assist through an Iwi endorsed plan - titled the Maniapoto Implementation Plan 2007.  This gave rise to three research support regions.

  1. Maniapoto Ki Te Raki (Northern Maniapoto) Chaired by Harold Maniapoto
  2. Maniapoto Ki Te Tonga (Southern Maniapoto) Chaired by John Wi
  3. Maniapoto Central region (Central Maniapoto) Chaired by Wayne Jensen

MCR consists of three groups which can be described as Hapū aligned clusters; Ngāti Rora; Ngāti Kinohaku and Te Puna

  1. Ngāti Rora (Te Tokanganui-a-noho Marae)
  2. Ngāti Kinohaku (Oparure and Motiti Marae)
  3. Te Puna (yet to be defined)
